Supplier name The Bicycle Society
Commitment to Achieving Net Zero
The Bicycle Society (trading name of TBSUK Limited) is committed to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050.
Meeting the Reporting Requirements
This 2050 Net Zero plan complies with PPN 006, as published by the Cabinet Office in February 2025. This document will be reviewed and updated annually in accordance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
Baseline Carbon Emissions

Baseline year: January 2025 – January 2026

Additional Details relating to the baseline emissions calculations.
The Bicycle Society is a private limited SME company. While we are not obligated to report our emissions under the Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting (SECR) regulations, we are committed to environmental responsibility. To demonstrate this commitment, we began recording our emissions in January 2025-January 2026, which serves as our baseline for measuring and improving our environmental impact. Baseline emissions are a record of the greenhouse gases that have been produced in the past and were produced prior to the introduction of any strategies to reduce emissions. Baseline emissions are the reference point against which emissions reduction can be measured.

Our total baseline emissions for 2026 are 313 kg CO2e

2025 Carbon Emissions Overview
To ensure transparency and a comprehensive assessment of our environmental impact, we operate fully remotely with no owned or leased office premises. All employees work primarily from home. Home energy consumption remains under individual employee control and is not attributable to the organisation.
While no office-related Scope 1 or Scope 2 emissions exist, we recognise that homeworking activities of employees result in indirect emissions. Emissions, including electricity, gas, waste and waste from homeworking, are considered within Scope 3 and form part of our comprehensive assessment of environmental impact.
As our business grows, we anticipate a proportional increase in emissions. This potential rise is factored into our Carbon Reduction Plan, ensuring we take appropriate measures to mitigate and offset any increases while maintaining our commitment to sustainability.

Scope 1
|
We operate a fleet of 1 diesel (blue motion) vehicle (Volkswagen Transporter T6.1), which is used where necessary to transport larger quantities of bicycles/specialist cycling equipment to schools and community locations. During January 2025 to January 2026, our fleet covered an estimated total distance of 1000 miles. Vehicle use is limited and represents a small proportion of operational travel, with around 90% of journeys completed by bicycle-based transport methods. This figure is based on an average yearly estimate. As part of our commitment to improving accuracy and reducing our environmental impact, we aim to implement more precise tracking methods in the future.
Based on this, our total Scope 1 emissions for the 2026 period are 276.39 kg CO2e.

Scope 2
|
Our organisation operates fully remotely with no owned or leased office premises. All employees work primarily from home or customer premises. Home energy consumption remains under individual employee control and is not attributable to the organisation. While no office-related Scope 2 emissions exist, we recognise that homeworking activities of employees result in indirect emissions. We have applied government-published UK benchmarks for electricity, gas and water consumption for remote employees. Emissions, including electricity, gas, waste and waste from homeworking, are considered within Scope 3 and form part of our comprehensive assessment of environmental impact. As a remote and digitally operated organisation, we maintain a paperless working environment and do not generate material levels of business-related paper or office waste through employee homeworking activities. Employees work primarily using cloud-based systems, digital documentation and electronic communication platforms, significantly reducing the generation of physical waste associated with traditional office operations. Consequently, no measurable home-generated business waste has been attributed to the organisation within this reporting period. We will review Scope 2 applicability annually. Should we acquire premises or begin centrally procuring energy in the future, we will calculate Scope 2 emissions in accordance with the GHG Protocol.
Our total Scope 2 emissions for the 2026 period are 0 kg CO2e.

Scope 3
|
Although our employees are home-based and work remotely from their home addresses for administrative and planning activities, their primary working locations are customer premises, specifically local schools and educational settings. Employees typically commute to these locations by bicycle, resulting in minimal direct commuting-related emissions. As we do not directly manage employee homes or customer premises, we have used government-published UK benchmarks for electricity, gas and water consumption associated with remote working activities. Home energy consumption remains under individual employee control and is not directly controlled by us.
100% of our Scope 3 emissions originate from employee commuting (emissions from employee teleworking), reflecting energy use from electricity, gas and water while working from home. These emissions relate solely to electricity, gas and water usage attributable to homeworking activities and do not include travel to customer sites, as employees primarily commute to local schools by bicycle. The organisation operates a largely paperless and digital working environment. No material business-related paper or office waste is generated through homeworking activities, and no significant home-generated waste emissions have been attributed to the organisation during the reporting period. Our 3 FTE employees work remotely full-time, typically for 8 hours per day across 220 working days per year. These emissions have been estimated based on average UK domestic energy consumption for homeworking and represent our organisation’s primary source of Scope 3 emissions.
To estimate the emissions generated from water supply and treatment emissions from employee teleworking, we have used the UK average of 149 litres used per person per day. This provides an estimated consumption of 98.34m³ per year for our 3 FTE employees.
Our total Scope 3 emissions for the 2026 period are 26.62 kg CO2e.

Emission Reduction Targets
To continue our progress toward achieving Net Zero by 2045, we have adopted an Absolute Contraction Approach to carbon reduction. Our targets are as follows:
· 2035: Target of 50% Carbon reduction to 156.50 kg CO2e
· 2040: Target of 75% Carbon reduction to 78.25 kg CO2e
· 2050: Target of 100% Carbon reduction to Net Zero
Figure 1: Our carbon reduction targets by year
Carbon reduction projects
The carbon reduction opportunities outlined in this section, once fully implemented, will reduce our GHG emissions annually, aligning with our goal of achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050.
Scope 1 actions
We currently report 276.39 kg CO2e Scope 1 emissions, as we operate without owned or leased office premises and maintain a predominantly low-carbon delivery model. Staff work flexibly between home-based administration and direct delivery at schools and community venues, travelling primarily by bicycle, electric bicycle and/or cargo bicycle.
Due to the limited use of direct fuel combustion sources, Scope 1 emissions remain low. Current carbon reduction opportunities within this category are therefore limited. We will continue to minimise vehicle dependency through route planning, bicycle-first logistics, and increased use of cargo bicycles and e-bikes.
We will continue to review Scope 1 emissions annually in line with the GHG Protocol and PPN 006 guidance and will assess additional reduction opportunities should operational requirements or premises arrangements change in the future.
Scope 2 actions
We currently have 0 Scope 2 emissions, as we do not own, lease or occupy any office premises and do not centrally purchase electricity or gas. Consequently, there are no carbon reduction opportunities in this category.
Any future Scope 2 reduction projects would only arise if we began to centrally procure energy for operational premises. We will assess and report in future Carbon Reduction Plans in line with the GHG Protocol and PPN 006 guidance.
Scope 3 actions
Employee commuting (employee teleworking/homeworking)
· Continue to support and encourage homeworking
· Maintain a paperless and digitally managed operational model
· Encourage the continued use of virtual meeting platforms
Moving forward, we aim to explore opportunities to reduce Scope 3 emissions associated with employee homeworking by providing guidance and resources for efficient electricity, gas and water management. As utilities are not owned or controlled by us and remain under individual employee responsibility, our approach focuses on influencing and supporting employees to adopt sustainable practices within their own homes.
